The Love of Sons
How many times have you heard two people arguing about eternal security? Think about when someone says “You can’t live however you want and still be saved!” Often our inclination is to fire back: “Yes you can, but there will be consequences!” That’s a true statement, and eternal life is eternal (it’s in the name!) But often we miss the point.
The Bible doesn’t tell saved people to walk in the light because it will make us feel good, or because we’ll be chastened if we don’t, though those things are true. The reason the Bible gives for why we should walk in the light is that Jesus is in the light (1 John 1:7)! When Paul beseeches saved people to dedicate themselves to God, he does so on the grounds of God’s mercy (Romans 12:1-2). Likewise, the reason Peter gives for why we should be holy is this: because God is holy (1 Peter 1:15). Peter is quoting from Leviticus 20:7. That’s four different books penned by four different writers who were all inspired by God to communicate this truth to us: the ever-sufficient reason the Bible gives for us to practice holiness is that the God who called us out of darkness is himself holy. As long as we love God and respect his Word, that’s all the reason we will ever need to be like him!
This point is not satisfying to those who cannot fathom living righteously except under threat of eternal condemnation. Nevertheless, this truth frees us from quibbling over what consequence is “bad enough” to convince us not to live in sin. Jesus himself died for our sins, rose from the grave, and promises eternal life to those who believe in him. We do not need the hazard of Hell to be back on the table in order to obey God’s Word, and those who do should consider that it is precisely the kindness of God (not threats of judgment) that leads us to follow Him (Romans 2:4).
BIG UPDATES AND PRAYER REQUESTS
This year we carried God’s Word to the ears of people in Texas, Louisiana, Maine, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and many other physical places. In addition to physical travel, our Focus on the Bible podcast allowed us to preach the gospel through people’s speakers nearly 50,000 times in 62 countries! It is a long haul to expand our efforts and reach more people, but we will not be weary in well-doing. If you are not a supporter, please consider joining our team financially by visiting femionline.com/donate ! We have big plans for the upcoming year, and even a little bit goes a long way in helping us grow.
Grace Farm’s Winter Retreat registration is open at gracefarmonline.com! Young adults are invited to join us for a weekend of fellowship and time in God’s Word. Please pray for our preparation to serve people and minister to their spiritual needs.
We are so proud to announce the birth of our son, Orrin Renatus Coile!
Thank God he’s finally here! Please pray with us that we will be godly parents who teach him to trust and love God above anything else.

A MESSAGE FROM JANET COILE
Dear Ones,
This time of year it is really common for ministries to send out the annual “beg letter.” I’ll admit to you that I don’t enjoy getting those letters too much. Too. many. Needs. It frustrates me to feel overwhelmed by all the needs that I feel incapable of meeting. And yet…
I was recently interviewed as to what my financial goals for the future were. I had the answer ready, “to be financially stable enough so that I can give more and do more to promote the gospel.” I could almost feel my halo being shined by some unseen angel. But, my answer convicted me.
Are my financial decisions in line with that goal? Do I thoughtlessly run through a drive-thru to order a “cheeseburger with fries, please!” but balk at providing a meal for the homeless? Am I happy to spend money on a convenience item but feel frustrated with Salvation Army employees ringing a bell at every entrance of Walmart? As one who has been the recipient of so much generosity, am I a bit stingy in my own giving attitude? When we are thankful, it affects our giving. Period. Recently a pastor asked how I was doing. We had been without water at our house for several days due to our well pump going out. “I can’t complain,” I told him. It was something Freddie would have said. But, although I don’t always speak it, I often DO complain, at least in my thoughts.
2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
So, if you believe in our goals: to share a clear gospel to the lost and offer sound biblical teaching to the saved, please consider supporting us. And, let us know how we can help you too. We are in this together!
Much love,
Janet
