The Cosmological Truth
It is logical to say that the beginning of the universe was caused by God. This truth is stated simply in these three points:
- All things that begin must have a cause.
- The universe was caused.
- Therefore: The only sufficient cause for the universe is God.
An honest and unbiased mind can easily accept the logic of these statements. This is the very reason that I rejected evolution as a kid. I knew that the evolution theory that I was being taught did not have a sufficient power to cause the universe. Where was the power to begin the grand universe that I saw? Unguided chaos could make life? Hydrogen could put the solar system into orbit? Who made the hydrogen? The only sufficient explanation for the cause of our massive universe was … God. It was so much easier to believe in Him than any other Cause. There are only two choices for the first cause: God or nothing.
The Design Truth
This reasoning can be stated like this:
- Where there is design; there had to be a designer.
- The universe has much design.
- Therefore: The only designer wise enough to design the universe is God.
My college lab rat was dead and smelly, but every dreaded hour with him exploded this truth in my mind. Even a rat was intricately designed and it would be so intellectually clumsy to assume that it came from chaos and swamp goo. Bees, flowers, milk cows, and whales all testify that God is a masterful Designer.
Equal Time for Atheists
You may encounter the following argument from a skeptic. I hope you do.
- A bird cannot fly into outer space.
- Finite cannot penetrate infinite.
- Therefore: Man cannot find God.
This is easily handled. The truth about Man and God is that the Infinite God did not wait for unknowing man to attempt to find Him. God revealed Himself to finite Man! God has put on display for man the glory of creation:
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” – Rom. 1:20
He has revealed the truth in our conscience:
“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.” – Rom. 1:19
He has shined the light of the truth to every man:
“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
– John 1:9
He came here:
Jesus Christ came to earth as a man. He was God in the flesh. He lived, worked, sweated, taught people, went fishing, and loved everybody – even the skeptics.
The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us.” – John 1:14
And then the Cause and the Designer of the universe did the unthinkable. He died on a cross to pay the death penalty that Man owed to God.
Because Jesus died for you; eternal life can be yours freely, by the grace of God. You can know you’re going to Heaven by believing in Jesus Christ, the One who died for your sins and rose from the dead to prove it.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Ephesians 2:8, 9 †
