Faith Brings Peace

She looked much like all the other nicely dressed people sitting in the seats, but on the inside, she was in tatters. Another victim of religion, her eyes were dry, but her soul was crying.

“I was raised in a catholic family,” she said. “It frustrated me so much.” Never knowing if she had done enough, never understanding the basis of forgiveness. Wondering if she could ever be good enough, afraid of not being able to hang onto God.

Freddie Coile

She couldn’t take it anymore.

“I left. And went to the Church of Christ. After that, I was so terribly confused when I came in here this morning.”

Frustration and confusion often are the wounds of those who ride the merry-go-round of religion. Around and ‘round they go, but the ride never takes the riders to peace with God.

Why? Religious deeds don’t bring people to God. They take people up, down, and all around, but ultimately religion doesn’t lead people to Jesus. It leads them right back to themselves. “Have I done enough?” echoes discord in the soul.

The gospel is such beautiful news to those who are sick and tired of playing the religious games that most people play. Religion asks, “What have you done; is it enough?” The gospel declares, “Look what Jesus did! It was enough!”

Everlasting Life is by Faith Alone in Christ Alone.

“…being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5:1

“Justified” means to be declared righteous in God’s eyes. This declaration would be impossible if God’s judgment were based in any degree upon our actions.
This moment, isn’t it true that you, yourself, remain sinful, less than perfect? What then must be the verdict of a holy Judge? We have no hope of peace with God, except for faith in Christ plus nothing else.

In the eyes of God, a perfect penalty has been paid for sin. The death of Christ paid everything; we can have peace with the Judge, by faith in His Son.

To “have faith” means different things to different people. Here is clarity: Faith means believe. The only reliable object of our faith is Jesus, not ourselves. We can’t believe in ourselves, not even our best moment of self. It is lunacy to think that we could be good enough for God in order to gain eternal life.

We simply can’t trust our efforts, our works, our intentions, or, as they say, our life change, in order to turn enmity with God to peace. To do so is to go right back on the merry-go-round of law.

We have fallen short of the glory of God; we are not good enough for Him. By faith, He declares us worthy in Christ! Ultimately, each believer in Christ will be glorified with God. But for now, our glory, righteousness, and peace, is in Christ alone.

The tears of her soul came running out as the persuasion of the gospel brought peace with God. Now her testimony is faith in Christ; not faith in religion. We preach the gospel, that more can have peace with God.

Some treat faith as a very valuable building material. “Yes, I’ll have faith in Jesus, it will look great alongside my righteous accomplishments. I’ll nail a large plank of faith onto my salvation house.”

Faith in Christ is not an addition to the salvation house. It is the house!

“For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.” – Ephesians 2:8,9

The Fallacy Scout is on the job, looking for fallacies that are dressed up like the truth! They need to be exposed so that good folks don’t believe bad things. Here’s one that Fallacy Scout exposed:

Fallacy location: A church sign.

Fallacy states: “The Devil is in Hell.”

Fallacy exposed: The Devil is not in Hell.

Explanation: The Devil will spend 1000 years in a bottomless pit [Revelation 20:1-3]. Later, he will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, forever  [Revelation 20:10].

But for now, he’s in neither of these unpleasant places. He is very busy these days. He is right here, on the earth. He spends his days and nights doing the work of the Father of Lies [John 8:44] and The Prince of the Power of the Air [Ephesians 2:2].

He might even be involved with church sign lettering if folks don’t read their Bibles enough!

Down at the Farm…

We’re getting ready for our summer events. Whew, it’s wild too! We have lots to do, but things are taking shape. It won’t be long!

How about your church? Does your youth group have a good place to go to camp that is clear on the gospel, teaches the Bible in big meaty chunks, and is so much fun it’ll knock your hat in the creek? You should investigate. If you need a camp like that, just send ’em to Grace Farm where we’re trusting the Lord for a good crop of leaders who are growing up to be movers, shakers, and decision makers for the Lord.
